Glow Week Day Four: Nurture/Nature
Comet was a... well, Comet had lots of love to give to his parents. Instead of play with the other children at the park, Comet preferred to stay with his parents and watch. He was curious, but reserved.
Tons of pediatrician visits told them nothing was wrong, but Connie couldn't stop her worrying until they had visited the Crystal Gems one particularly sunny day.
"Whoa, who let these little crazies in the house?" Greg asked with a hearty laugh as the girls squealed and ran for him.
Steven glanced away and down to his son, clinging to his leg. Comet was only 3 since Connie had had a lovely 3 months of recovery before they'd accidentally made a third child. But now his pink eyes met with his fathers and Steven immediately picked him up. Comet hadn't shown any signs of gem powers at all, but his eyes turned pink when he was feeling frustrated or nervous.
"Hey there, Comet. Grandpa will come see you once you're calmer." Greg had easily picked up on Steven and Connie's hints that Comet was gun shy. The gems took a bit longer but once they'd seen a bit of overstimulation, they'd backed off at a warning from two pink eyed people.
Connie patted Comets back as he laid on Stevens shoulder. The man instinctually began to sway to soothe him in the way a parent does once they are accustomed to the lifestyle. "Doctors say he's fine. It's just a bit behind his milestones."
Steven had the urge to remind her about milestones not being concrete, but kept his mouth shut as Garnet stepped out of the temple room and grinned. "I... predicted something like this might happen."
The girls gasped and little footsteps turned into them climbing Garnet.
"Garnet, yesterday I beat Azalea in a race!"
Lucky giggled as Garnet picked her up one handed and Azalea up by the back of her shirt. "I bet I could beat both of you."
"That's no fair! You have future vision!" Azalea proclaimed. "Amethyst has to play too! Mommy, Daddy, can we go play outside?"
"Of course." Steven grinned and moved out the door. "It's a beautiful day just... Be safe. Please."
"And you say I'm a worry wart," Connie teased as they all piled out. The day was too nice to not join them, and despite his care to make sure his father was okay, Steven was a tiny bit of a helicopter parent.
"I just love soaking up as much memories as I can. Plus, there's always a chance of trouble," Steven pointed out, pulling her onto his lap. "I love my perfect little family."
Greg chuckled and sat down wearily. "It's nice isn't it?"
The longing in his father's voice made him once again feel guilty. He'd never experienced anything like this with Rose. It wasn't fair.
He watched as Lucky and Azalea charged across the decidedly slippery sand to try and slap Garnets hand and race back. The unending energy was fascinating to him. Even with his stamina being endless, he could still only tolerate running for so long before he was too sweaty and bored to continue. But their little bodies seemed to be bursting at the seams with motivation.
Except his little Comet. Comet had one arm behind Steven as he leaned and one hand playing with his Mommy's hair as she rested back against him.
After a while Garnet tagged Pearl in, who Azalea immediately began asking to show all the places she'd been. After careful and straightforward discussion, Pearl knew which places to show and which to save for an older age where she would process the real story better.
Garnet was silent, stoic as she watched the children of what she supposed was like a human son to her. She could see endless possibilities with every ticking second, but the scene in front of her was far more interesting.
The rest chatted until the girls asked for water and dinner, so they all packed up and headed inside.
"You coming, Garnet?" Greg asked. "It's gonna get dark soon."
"I'm not afraid of the dark. I've got me as company."
As dinner came near, Connie heard the front door open and shut. Immediately her Mommy Senses were tingling and she followed the sound to watch as her 3 year old walked down to the beach and sat next to Garnet. "Steven."
He excused himself and joined by her side. They watched as Comet did his signature lean and Garnet patted his head. No words that they could hear through the screen or the ocean were exchanged. It seemed they were sitting in a comfortable silence.
"Maybe he's just quiet," Connie relented softly. "Maybe we just birthed a quiet child, and I have to be okay with three blabbermouths instead of four."
Steven sighed in relief. "Yeah, you think? Come on." He lifted her into his arms and thought really hard about telling Garnet dinner was ready. If he thought about it hard enough, it'd eventually become a possibility that he would. Instead he kissed his wife and sat her down gently, tapping her bottom as he passed. "Time for food, girls!" Then he paused midstep. Connie giggled just as Steven scoffed in offense. "Wait, what do you mean four blabbermouths? We only have three kids!"
She only laughed harder.

⋆.˚ don't ask "what are we?" ♡︎ skz.
Tumblr media
── .✦ headcanons of how the members of stray kids would be like if you were in a 'situationship' with them, ala-i like it. the boys are a bit 🚩 in this one, to varying degrees— you have been warned.
Tumblr media
CHAN.
Chan doesn't have the time to date properly. In between managing expectations as a leader and keeping all the boys in line, he hardly has a moment to think of being in a dedicated relationship. He thinks it would only be a distraction from his goal, from everything he has built so carefully over the years.
And so maybe he settles for the next best thing— being just a little too close with you, someone who's supposed to be just a friend. Chan treats you like he's your boyfriend.
He sends 'u up?' texts at 3 AM. He spends his days off at your apartment, just lounging around. He'll hug you at any chance that he gets and chalk it up to the fact that he's always been physically affectionate.
When it comes to blurred lines, it's the worst with him. He's perfectly polite and still plenty friendly, enough to have you justifying that he probably treats everyone this way. Right?
After the nth 'u up?', after the one where you've finally had enough and you respond with "Why do you keep doing this to me?", Chan is frankly just horrified. He had no idea that his affections could be misinterpreted— a product both of his culture, and his comfort with you.
Chan will apologize profusely, will say things about 'never wanting to get your hopes up' and 'being more careful in the future'. He'll probably try his darndest to fall back in to being friends with you, but it won't work. He doesn't know how to be just friends with you.
At the end of the day, the group and its image will always come first for Chan. He wouldn't risk it for anything. If there had been a part of him that had even considered being with you, it's kept under lock and key. He tells himself over and over again that it's for the better.
🎧 friends, ed sheeran | friends don't treat me like you do— and i know that there's a limit to everything, but my friends won't love me like you.
Tumblr media
MINHO.
When Minho needs to not be Lee Know, when he just needs to be Minho from Gimpo, he knows that he can count on you. It's Minho's style, to mess around with someone who knew him before all of this— the idol lifestyle, the worldwide stardom.
Minho is aware that he's being a little cruel. You only ever hear from him when he's back home, after all. He gives you nothing of his life in Stray Kids; instead, he gives you the scraps of the boy he once was.
He visits on the rare holiday and the even rarer day-offs. He'll roll his eyes when you ask him to cook for you, but he'll already have all the ingredients to your favorite dishes. He'll complain about you sitting on the kitchen counter, but he'll still listen to your stories about work, about your day-to-day life.
You could convince yourself that you're just two friends who are catching up. But if you squint, you see the little things. How Minho's comments about your suitors are always a touch bitter and snide. How his gaze lingers as you eat the meal he prepared.
And when you ask him, one evening, "Why are you here, Minho?", you almost miss the look on his face. Almost. But it's gone as quickly as it came, replaced with something closer to boredom. "Because I want to be," he'll say. A part of you knows that he means it. Another part of you wishes that he meant it in a different way.
Minho keeps coming home to you, but he also keeps leaving the next day. He never looks back as he drives away.
🎧 'tis the damn season, taylor swift | we could call it even, you could call me babe for the weekend... i'm stayin' at my parents' house, and the road not taken looks real good now.
Tumblr media
CHANGBIN.
It should come as no surprise that Changbin finds romance in the gym. It's one of the few places he frequents outside of the company or the dorms, and it's rare for any of the boys to be with him as he goes.
Maybe you know who he is. Maybe you don't. Changbin can't really bring himself to care. The only thing he's concerned about is that your form is atrocious; he's concerned you're going to break your back if you keep it up. On the day he caves, he does it so casually— a cool offer of "Need a gym buddy?"
The two of you fall in to a ninety-minute routine every M-W-F. At first, it's strictly companionship. Over time, it becomes a little closer to friendship. And then— does Changbin's hand stay a beat too long at the small of your back? Is his hold on your bicep just a little on the possessive side? You're not entirely sure.
If nothing ever happens, it's not for the lack of trying. You've asked Chanbgin out to dinner, to drinks, but he always gives you a sheepish smile and some flimsy excuse. Prior plans. A strict diet.
Still, he's devastatingly funny, and always sincere when he compliments your progress. He touches you like you're fragile and his eyes follow you across the gym. It's torturous, the plausible deniability that you both attempt to maintain. Months in to this arrangement, you try to ask him out one last time. Like every other instance before, he looks like he's genuinely debating it.
But, like every other instance before, he shakes his head. You go your separate ways after the usual pleasantries— good night, see you next week, take care— and you learn that some things are just not meant to work out.
🎧 goodnight n go, ariana grande | it's bad enough we get along so well; just say 'good night' and go.
Tumblr media
HYUNJIN.
Honestly, anything akin to a 'situationship' would kill a hopeless romantic like Hyunjin. A part of him thinks that he'd rather stay single than deal with the uncertainties of a casual relationship, than not give his all to just one person.
It gets lonely, though. A lot lonelier than he cares to admit. And so Hyunjin finds solace in you, in just how much he can get away with. Unlike Chan, Hyunjin is aware of what he's doing. You're an imitation of the real thing. A balm meant to soothe, but never meant to always have on.
He plays his role well. He gets sulky when you don't respond, but then he'll go days without saying a word to you. He lavishes you with words of affirmation, but it's never the words that matter the most.
It's like putting a band-aid over a bullet wound. Hyunjin knows that his little charade with you doesn't drive away the lonely, not completely. It can only keep it at bay. With the life he lives, he figures that it's the most that he can get.
Out of the eight, Hyunjin is the only one who will ask you to stay. When you try to break it off, when you attempt to call him out— he's not above begging. He knows it's a little pathetic, to be so desperate for the facsimile of the romance he wants. But it's all he can afford.
It's a vicious cycle. Hyunjin is hot; Hyunjin is cold. He leaves you with a love that's lukewarm.
🎧 tug of war, carly rae jepsen | you seem too good, too good to be true. i'm loving you longer— longer than i'm used to.
Tumblr media
JISUNG.
Jisung enjoys the anonymity that the internet can give him. There's only so much places he can go without being recognized, only so many people he can meet who don't know him as HAN from Stray Kids.
On the internet, he doesn't have to be an idol. He's just some guy in his mid-twenties, looking for romance. His profile says he likes desserts and music. He's confident, here, because the people on the other side of the screen— like you— are just as nameless.
It gives him confidence. His usual sharp humor is still in place, but he's a smooth talker, too. He shamelessly tells you what he thinks, when he thinks it— everything from that outfit suits you to I like talking to you.
One time, Jisung even jokingly tells you, I'm just trying to find inspiration for my songs. That has always been his biggest flaw: He has yet to learn how to look at a person and not see a writing prompt.
Jisung is the one who makes the cleanest cut. If you dare to ask him more about himself, or if you question what lies underneath your mutual flirtations, he'll just... leave. The internet makes it so easy to ghost, to charge it all up to experience. And if you're the one who leaves— that works, too.
It doesn't matter who leaves. It always ends the same way: Track three on their recent comeback or a member's newest [SKZ PLAYER], with Han in the credits.
🎧 bad guy, hatchie | and you could be the bad guy, i could be the bad guy. any way you wanna try, it doesn't make it feel right.
Tumblr media
FELIX.
Felix's situation is somehow one of the worse types, because his is clearly just a matter of circumstance. It's a waltz of 'will they, won't they?', where Felix just can't seem to make up his mind on how he wants you.
He cares for you. He knows that much. And it shows, too, in the ways that you interact, in the little things he does for you. He enjoys your company, whether it's playing video games with you or teaching you how to bake. He likes you. Sure, fine.
Enough to date you, though? To put you through the terrifying ordeal that is dating an idol?... Felix isn't sure about that. He dances around the truth, inadvertently stringing you along as he goes.
In a way, it feels like the two of you are in lockstep. Felix will just barely cross the line of friendship before reeling in, before taking it back. It can be draining; it can be thrilling. It's whatever you make it.
Felix never comes to a decision. There's too much on his plate, and he will ultimately put the boys— in extension, himself— first. The two of you have the best luck in staying in touch, in settling for something that resembles a proper friendship.
(But it's still there. Felix, at the end of the day, cannot completely close himself to you. Call it kindness. Call it cruelty. The door, still half-open; the lights, still on.)
🎧 light on, maggie rogers | if you're gone for good, then i'm okay with that. if you leave the light on, then i'll leave the light on.
Tumblr media
SEUNGMIN.
Seungmin might not be the most tactile in the group, might not be the 'clingiest' in the traditional sense of word, but he has his moments. He craves attention, companionship, people. While he has his pick of the litter with the boys, there's also only so much that they can offer.
Enter you. Let it be made clear: Seungmin would never get in an arrangement like this if you weren't both on the same page. From the get go, he tells you his intentions. "Nothing serious," he warns, his eyes sharp and his jaw set. "None of that 'love' stuff."
And it's not because Seungmin doesn't want to fall in love. Of course he wants to! But at the price of his career? Never. He's willing to compromise, though. To treat all of this almost like it's a business transaction. To only ever have you in private, in secret.
He knows his boundaries. He never gives you everything, but he also never leaves you high and dry. In a way, you're both just filling the gaps in each other's lives— almost like it's a quota. You steal away on private dates. You both get your fill of physical affection. Neither of you call it a relationship.
There are one or two versions of this story where Seungmin is the one who falls first. It is inevitably you, and when he picks up on it, there is no screaming match. No 'break up' in a parking lot. It's a quiet sort of ending where you can tell that Seungmin is just a little bit disappointed to have to cut you loose.
🎧 lowkey, niki | i know we're a little fucked up to stay still, love. be as quite as you can 'cause if anyone sees they'll just blow shit up.
Tumblr media
JEONGIN.
Being surrounded by seven other guys who constantly treat him like he's the youngest, it's a little difficult for Jeongin to not let it get to his head. He still sometimes acts his age— especially when it comes to dating.
He's never hasty enough to cause any real damage, though there are times where he comes dangerously close. If there's anything bound to get him in to trouble, it's his tendency to just leave when something no longer serves him.
Jeongin is acutely aware, after all, of the little power that he wields. He's a big believer that he can get anything he wants as long as he puts his mind to it. And so he dates you for a short time, in a way that can only really be described as love bombing.
He loves sneaking out to go on dates, loves late night phone calls and shameless flirting. He'll send you a dozen selcas; he'll ask you to help pick out his outfit. He's sweet in a way that only somebody reckless and young can be, and it's the reason why people fall so hard and so fast.
But the moment Jeongin catches any hint of that— the impending commitment conversation, the just-about-to-hit question of 'what are we?'— he's already blocking your number. He may seem devil-may-care, but he'd been careful from the very beginning.
You'll never be able to definitively say that he flirted with you, that you were together. He knows how to cover up his tracks. When Jeongin clears out, it's always in a way that leaves you wondering: Did it really ever happen at all?
🎧 good graces, sabrina carpenter | it's not that complicated; you should stay in my good graces or i'll switch it up like that, so fast!

I like to think about the impact that being isolated as a teen had on Shigaraki as a person.
I don’t mean angst, not understanding his own feelings or awkward social life. I mean that he definitely has gotten most of his non-hero related facts about society and people from the internet.
imagine; Shigaraki genuinely not understanding the concept of gender or sexuality because he’s only ever seen it discussed in reddit debates. He is baffled when he meets Magne but accepting. That night he searches “how to support trans employee professional easy”
Shigaraki asking Quora, “Why is my father so insistent on me making friends? It makes me uncomfortable. I don’t like people.” And having 20 moms in his replies telling him to get out of his room and join clubs
Shigaraki not knowing basic things about women (seeing as he was not raised around any) and awkwardly googling the phrase “PMS-ing” when Toga complains about cramping, expecting it to be teenage slang and instead going down the rabbit hole of the horrific experience of periods
Shigaraki not knowing why Sako is bowing his head toward Kurogiri and saying “itadakimasu” every time he eats with the League and wondering if the magician is trying to usurp his spot as Kurogiri’s favorite via boot licking
Shigaraki taking a “Do you have autism” quiz on Quotev and expressing his concerns to Kurogiri at 2 am when he scores 100% (he doesn’t know what autism even is)
Overall, I think people don’t take advantage of how funny it could be to interact with the ultimate antisocial dweeb Shigaraki who has a total of zero normal experiences

i'm building an accidental headcanon abt bucktommy adopting a toddler age daughter (her name is olive in my head yes i'm in too deep) bUT regardless of the actual details of their kid, one thing incredibly important to me is that evan 'tapeworms are cool! it's nature!' buckley imparts being a Weird Bug Kid onto her. he's gonna be out in the garden (of tommy's once-fixer-upper, now-fixed-up-with-buck's-help house that their lil family adores) with her every day showing her how to hold worms in her hands gently when you need to move them off a hot sidewalk. they'll go on minibeast hunts and poke all sorts of gross stuff. tommy sort of lets them ramble to each other without knowing how much she's picking up so one day when he's taking her to the park and she's like 'dada look an ant nest! did u know theres one kind of ant that explodes when it dies and squirts poison on you!!' and tommy breaks out in a cold sweat. eventually tommy will be cleaning her room and find a whole jar full of snails under her bed (in a nest of moss and grass and snail-friendly things which is how he knows EVAN HELPED) and he's gonna just get the longest thousand yard stare. unfortunately he adores his daughter and his evan but he really wanted his kid to ask for a puppy and now it's nearly christmas and he's googling how to buy an african land snail because he can't say no to the matching adorable grins looking his way.

Glow Week Day 4: Nature/Nurture
Conniverse kids 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹
When Connie heard the sharp gasp, she immediately turned to see Steven staring at his phone in horror. "What's the matter?"
He heaved a heavy, sad sigh and shook his head. "I accidentally deleted it."
Connie crossed over to pull his head into her stomach as he began to sniffle. "Oh, I know how special it was to you, Steven."
*
Lucky knew it would be her dad texting her at 3:45 to tell her he loved her, even though they were headed to the roller rink after the rest of the De Mayo- Maheswaren kids got off from school. She was still at the school with them even with being almost 18 and graduated early after she'd fallen in love with teaching. "Don't crash the car, Azalea."
"Actually, it's a van," Celeste mumbled as she turned to the next page in her book. "A van." She drew out the syllables like Lucky must be stupid and Azalea cackled.
"Fine then," Lucky replied cooly. "Don't crash Grandpas van."
"Careful, every time you say that it makes me wanna do it just to see if I have healing powers too," Azalea said, glaring at her a dangerous amount of time.
Lucky rolled her eyes and sighed. Azalea was definitely turning up the alternative teen vibes. At 13, she became they and they shaved their hair down to a pixie cut and dyed half of it lilac and half of it jet black.
Needless to say, Azalea got two suspicious parents trying to not freak them out while they drowned them in questions and their dad pretended to not be terrified out of his mind. Now they were 16, just barely.
Seraphine and Celine were still in their football gear, and once again Lucky wondered where the hell they'd gotten sports from among the musically and theatrically talented family. Comet was by far the least talkative of them all, but that kid could sing his heart out.
A notification on another app drew her attention back to the phone to see her dads text:
'Lucky,
I have kept a voicemail from you for over two years. All you did was to call me to tell me you loved me. I usually listen to it about 20 times a week. This morning while listening to it I received a phone call and accidentally deleted your voicemail. I am heartbroken and want it back on my phone. Please call me and leave me another "I just wanted to say I love you" message.'
Despite being a recently retired daredevil, Lucky was cursed with her father's proneness to tears. They healed too, but nothing felt quite as good as having a dad who loved them so much. She cleared her throat and held up the phone. "You know what we should do? We should leave dad one of those voicemails where we just tell him we love him."
"You'll both cry," Azalea laughed. "I suppose this one time I can let the L word slip."
Comet scoffed. "You're killing me, Azalea."
They grew an identical sneer to his. "Doesn't seem to be working."
"If you guys start arguing I'm going to record it for blackmail," Celeste warned them.
"I vote Comet. He's got super strength and music powers," Celine laughed. "I've been waiting for this fight forever."
"Not while they're driving!" Lucky pleaded but Seraphines voice carried above hers.
"Azalea could grow him a flower!" She belly laughed as Azalea glowered at her in the mirror.
"You guys realize you guys don't have your powers yet, right? At least I'm not a–," They licked their fingers and raised their hand to the flower bouquet sitting in the passenger side window for their father to give to their mother. At a single stroke they grew full of life again and they smirked at the twins. "At least I'm not a late bloomer. Or a crybaby."
"Hey!" Lucky snapped. "Pay attention, all of you. And I will have you know I will not cry today, and haven't in a while."
Comet raised a silent eyebrow but said nothing.
"Right. Okay..." She fumbled with her phone as she called her dad. What if this one wasn't as good? Lucky was a Daddy's Girl for sure, she'd feel so terrible if he hated it.
It rang a total of seventeen nerve wracking times for Lucky before the automatic voicemail began. 'Hey, you've reached the voicemail box of Steven Universe. If you're a Crystal Gem or Homeworld gem, please press one, and you'll be redirected to my business line. Thanks for calling!'
Their dad was such a happy-go-lucky dork. He was the greatest.
"Hey, Dad! I, ow!" She grunted at Azalea smacked her. "We were just calling to tell you how much we love you!" Lucky giggled.
Comet leaned forward. "Hey, Dad. I love you.”
"I love you too dad! It's Azalea, your favorite!" They waved at the phone even though he'd never be able to know.
"Twins reporting in to say you're the best dad in the world!" Celine cried from the very back.
"–And we love you! Dude, we had one job," Seraphine scolded as she retouched her makeup.
"Hi, Daddy!" A seven year old Celeste was suddenly torn away from her book with his same goofy grin. "I love you!"
Comet crossed his arms and mumbled under his breath, "She sure knows how to turn it on after threatening blackmail."
"Alright, Dad. Bye. I love you." Lucky clicked off the phone and half smiled, half grimaced. It probably could've gone cleaner if they'd done some more planning.
Comet rolled his eyes at her as Azalea crooned, "Daddy's Girl! Lame! Basic! Come to the dark side, be a Mommy's Girl."
"Yeah Seraphine, we all know Dads your favorite," Celine teased.
Her sister frowned into the mirror. "I love mom! We're getting distracted from Lucky."
Lucky scoffed. "I love mom too, Sera! Dad and I just vibe on the same level!"
Comet chuckled. "You're picking up his outdated slang that was outdated when he started using it." He kicked up his feet on the center console and ignored them swatting at his boots. "How strange it must be to not be loved by both parents equally."
"We should send mom a voicemail too," Celine suggested. "I'm all sweaty and gross, but we can't just send Dad one and not Mom."
"Only if Comet will sing~!" Azalea swerved the car back and forth until their siblings were all screaming.
*
When his phone started ringing, he broke out into the biggest grin ever out of nowhere. Lucky was sending him his voicemail, and as much as he wanted to talk to her, he kept his self control at bay until it stopped ringing entirely. He left it alone another couple of minutes longer, feeding the anticipation so she could for sure get everything in.
At the sound of her voice he teared up. The background noises of her van rattled a bit and he loved it. His daughter told him she loved him and that's it. He almost pulled the phone away from his ear before he heard Comet, projecting for once, telling him he loved him too. Steven pressed a hand to his heart and leaned forward as if that could help him hear it better when Azalea all but shouted how much they loved him and claiming once again they were his favorite. Which was not true. He'd explained it many times that he didn't have favorites, but if he were to take someone out for ice cream, he'd take Azalea. When called out he pointed out that Lucky was lactose intolerant and Comet didn't like ice cream, Celeste’s preference lied with crème brûlée and the twins were on a weird keto diet. Speaking of which, his puzzle piece twins were finishing each others sentences to tell him they loved him too. Celine was the forgetful but loyal twin and quarterback for the schools girls football team (which he was now learning just to be the loudest and most with it parent in the stands), and Seraphine was the organized jock cheerleader twin that he had no idea how to be more impressed with. Celeste, the little genius she was, squealed when she said she loved him and it made his heart ache to hold her.
"Alright, Dad. Bye. I love you!"
"Hey–!"
Connie poked her head around the corner, smiling at how he was shaking his head in disbelief. "Mind if I join you?"
He nodded tearfully. "We make such good children."
"Steven, we are out. of. time. I spent so much of my 20's and 30's pregnant or with babies." Still, she grinned. "Don't tell me we're adopting already."
He took a huge sniff of her perfume and sighed dreamily. "Maybe. I love kids."
Connie scratched at the scruff on his chin. "I wish you could carry them instead of me. It's so not fair you're the favorite." She squeaked as he pulled her onto his lap.
"Don't be ridiculous! Our kids love you. You're easily the hottest mom, you're organized and poised and you're smart, ugh." He pushed into her neck so he could press longing kisses there. "So incredible."
She playfully shoved him away. "Don't lie to spare my feelings. I'm perfectly fine with being a badass who doesn't take shit. If I'm not the favorite, so be it."
Just then her phone rang and she pulled it out to see Lucky calling. She almost answered but Steven snatched it away. "Biscuit, you give that back," Connie told him sternly.
Despite the momentary dip of his arm he let it go to voicemail and handed it back. "Just a bet. I bet they send you one too. Especially if Comet and Celine were in there."
Sure enough her phone lit up with a voicemail notification and she smirked victoriously up at him. "I'll bet mines better."
Honestly, it was a perfect tie.
As soon as she hit play, the kids started singing in a beautiful harmony, "Momma, I killed a man!" and then giggling as they shouted they loved her to Homeworld and back and then a hundred times over. Then it dissolved into arguing with Comet that he was her favorite so he should go first, him being so much like Azalea it was a little ridiculous the universe hadn't just made them twins. Comet must have grabbed the phone just at the end as he shouted, "Bye Mom! We love you!" and it cut out.

When they all were gathered up from their various activities again, they pulled up to see the living room, porch and their parents' bedroom light on.
There they were up in their bedroom with the window wide open, slow dancing and completely absorbed with each other. Their dad must have said something super lame because their mom threw her head back in laughter and he chuckled at himself before noticing the van.
He turned Connie and waved at them cheerfully.
Comet snorted. "I can hear mom now. 'Steven, you don't need to wave at them. They'll be inside in a minute.'"
Sera did her best impression of their father. "'Oh, Connie! I'm so in love with you! I love our kids! I love our life!" They fake swooned as they fell out of the van and into Luckys arms.
"Very funny. Hit the showers, you guys smell like little boys."
